The book starts with a story of past events, connected with the seven gods that created the world. Aldur,one of the seven,creates the Orb of Aldur,an orb made from stone,within a living soul,and special,magic powers.Torak,also one of the seven,steal the orb from Aldur and tries to comands the orb by his will.The Orb was made for good,so when Torak wants to use it for his evil plans,the Orb burn Torak's left side of his body and his left eye.After many years the Orb was recoverd by the the best of Aldur's students,Belgarath the Sorcerer, and King Cherek and his sons.The Orb can be take only by someone with pure heart and not evil mind or desires of power,Riva,son of Cherek,was the one that was able to carry the Orb,so,from the moment he takes the Orb,he bounds himself and his family with the protection of the most powerful object of the world from the evil god Torak and his people,the angaraks.Than the story begins with the life of the little boy Garion and his early memories of the Valdor's farm and his Aunt Pol's kitchen.The story describes his games,friends,his feelings to Zubrette,girl in the farm,and how he meets "the story teller",who is actually Belgarath.The story also tells us about a man with black robe who later is known as Asharak, and some strange voice in his mind,later known as the "Voice of Prophecy".One day the storyteller comes, also known as "Mister Wolf" ,with news of the thief;that has stolen the Orb.Garion,Aunt Pol and Mister Wolf leave Faldor's farm,accompany by Durnik.The group is later join by Silk(prince Kheldar) and Barak,a Cherek warrior and part of tha royal family of the Cherek King.Garion and his interesting group go through several cities,lead by the invisible trail that Mister Wolf follows,but while the searching they are arestted and taken to a meeting of the kings of Aloria.After they are taken to the kings,Garion realize that Aunt Pol is the magican Polgara,4000 years old, and that Mister Wolf is the sorcerer Belgarath,7000 years old.While Garion is not sure about his relationship with Aunt Pol,Belgarath and Polgara are having meetings with the kings.While they are at the palace in Fal Alorn, Garion sees some strange man with green robe,bur he keeps this for himself.Several days later Barak decides to go hunting and Garion goes with him.In the forest Garion see the "green robe"man and some other man that "the green robe"men calls"my Lord".While the hunting Garion is attacked by a wild boar,he kills the boar,but he is seriously injured.Garion tells the kings about the spy and the traitor Lord.The moment later they are attack by the Lord and Asharak.They manage to stop the attack and Garion was almost capture,but he escapes.After that the group leave again for the searching of the Orb,but that time they take the Algarian prince Hettar,who can speaks with horses.Garion finds that Polgara is sister to Queen Beldaran,the wife or King Riva,and that Belgarath is her father.
